Dr. Ward Hindman
Dr. Ward Hindman is editor of the international journal Technical Soaring and was the meteorological advisor to USA team at the June 2006 World Gliding Championships in Sweden. In addition to his achievements as a meteorologist, Ward has done significant offshore sailing while a professor emeritus of meteorology and oceanography at the U.S. Naval Academy, 1984-88 (D-Qualification). Therefore, he understands both the mariners' and the forecasters' viewpoints, and what mariners need to know about the weather.
Ward is a commercial glider pilot and owner with over 1000 hours and has earned the FAI Gold Badge with two Diamonds. He is a Certified Consulting Meteorologist of the American Meteorological Society. Currently, Ward is professor of meteorology at The City College of New York and is studying human-effects on winter-mountain clouds and novel computer-assisted weather predictions for soaring flights.
