USCG Approved Limited OUPV/Master (Launch Tender) License
One day: 8 hours
License Description
The Limited OUPV license may be issued to applicants to be employed by a marina, yacht club, formal camp or educational institution allowing the licensed person to operate an unispected launch in a limited area. Uninspected launches carry six (6) or fewer passengers and only require the OUPV Limited License.
The Limited Master license may be issued to applicants to be employed by a marina, yacht club, formal camp or educational institution allowing the licensed person to operate an inspected launch in a limited area.
Inspected launches will have a Certificate of Inspection (COI) stating number of passengers, usually more than six (6), and area of operation.
Eligibility Requirements
- USCG Application
- The Captain OUPV License is required to operate uninpsected launches carrying no more than six (6) passengers. The minimum requirements are 17 years of age and supporting documentation for at least 90* days of sea time in the past three (3) years.
- The Master's License is required to operate inspected launches carrying seven (7) or more passengers. The minimum requirements are 18 years of age and supporting documentation for at least 120* days of sea time, 90* days in the past three (3) years.
- A drug test is required by the USCG.
- Misdemeanors and DUI/DWI convictions will be reviewed by the USCG and may effect your application.
- Medical exam results will be reviewed by the USCG.
- Exam certificates are valid for twelve (12) months.
* A "day of sea service" is equal to four to eight (4 to 8) hours away from the dock.

Certification: Upon course completion you will receive an American Boat School certification for USCG Approved Limited Master (Launch Tender) License.
Notes: Please call if you would like to arrange private Launch Tender Operator License classes at your yacht club or other location. Private classes are eligible for group discounts.
